My clients come to me with a wide variety of legal issues. With passion for handling complex legal issues, I think creatively to achieve the best possible outcome for them. I guide my clients through a challenging time in their lives, whether that requires being a counselor to them or being an advocate in court.
Robinson & Henry Associate and Civil Litigation Attorney Sonia Zaheer specializes in real estate law, business law, and construction defect. Sonia’s extensive litigation experience has made her both an effective negotiator with opposing counsel and a formidable advocate in court for her clients.
In representing her clients, Sonia begins by making every effort to fully understand what their goals are. This gives her an insight into what the legal dispute means for her clients on a personal level. Sonia believes that throughout the process of representing her clients, communication at every stage of the matter is an essential part of her job as an attorney.
Next, Sonia strives to thoroughly understand the legal issues involved before crafting the best legal strategy for her clients. In the interests of efficiency and speedy resolution, she seeks to resolve disputes through negotiations to get the best outcome for her clients. However, if negotiations do not yield the desired results, she will not shy away from litigating the matter in court.
Before joining Robinson & Henry, Sonia served as a deputy district attorney for the Fourth Judicial District Attorney’s Office. That role gave Sonia the opportunity to handle complex cases through all stages of litigation in a fast-paced environment. She successfully conducted numerous jury trials involving serious crimes, including domestic violence, child abuse, assault, aggravated robbery, and vehicular homicide.
Sonia earned several awards as a deputy district attorney, including the Trial Hound Award, County Court, for conducting the most trials in 2019. She also earned the office-wide Red Star Award in December 2020 for her excellent trial performance in a complex case. Sonia received special recognition from the Colorado Springs Police Department’s Major Crash Team for her work on the vehicular assault and homicide team.
Sonia’s litigation experience also includes serving as a trial attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of the U.S. Trustee, in Portland, Oregon. There, she prosecuted incidents of fraud, white-collar crime, and other misconduct in bankruptcy cases. She was selected for the position through the U.S. Attorney’s Honors Program and handled all aspects of prosecution, including pre-litigation settlement negotiations and bench trials in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Oregon.
Sonia received her Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of the Pacific’s McGeorge School of Law in 2015. While at McGeorge, Sonia served as the chief articles editor for the Pacific McGeorge Global Business & Development Law Journal. As a staff writer, she authored a scholarly article that was published in the law journal.
During law school, Sonia had the opportunity to serve as an extern for the Honorable Christopher M. Klein, the Chief Bankruptcy Judge for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Eastern District of California. Sonia also earned honors in trial advocacy while at McGeorge, and a certificate in advocacy. She earned various other accolades, including the Witkin Award for academic excellence in two law school classes.
Sonia is a native speaker of Urdu. She is also fluent in Punjabi and Hindi. In her free time, Sonia enjoys traveling, hiking, and spending time with her two young sons.
