Facing criminal charges can be a confusing time – my goal is to help you navigate through the uncertainty and protect your rights every step along the way.
If the U.S. criminal justice system were perfect, Austin Nelson may still be a journalist chasing down leads for the next big story. Alas, the system is flawed, and, today, Austin is a criminal defense attorney who strives to make a tangible difference in his clients’ lives.
Upon graduation from the University of Colorado Law School, Austin set out as a public defender to uphold his clients’ rights that are guaranteed by state and federal constitutions.
The types of cases Austin handled during his tenure at the Pueblo Public Defender’s Office run the gamut, from traffic matters and drug cases to sexual assaults and homicides. He secured acquittals for clients on cases such as domestic violence that involved harassment and assault, DUIs, unlawful sexual contact, and trespassing.
Now in private practice, Austin turns to his previous experience as a public defender and journalist to obtain the best possible outcome for his clients. Having represented hundreds of clients charged with misdemeanors and felonies, Austin cannot be caught off guard. He knows how to negotiate a plea deal and when it’s appropriate to take a case to trial. Using his journalism background, Austin develops powerful narratives that can sway prosecutors, judges, and jurors to return favorable results for his clients.
Clients will quickly discover they have hired a multi-faceted attorney who has found a balance between compassionate and fierce legal representation. Patient with and committed to his clients, Austin does not recoil when he’s fighting for them – regardless of the odds.
