question iconUnmarried Couple, jointly shares a bank account and owns a home (both deed & mortgage), wants to break up, one party okay with handing house over to other party without wanting money but just wants to be off the deed & mortgage, how do they proceed? How is this accomplished?

The transfer of ownership could be as easy as a Quit Claim Deed. However, getting released from the debt obligation will require the agreement of the lender. This is not an unusual issue, but it is more complicated than most people expect. I recommend having a conversation with one of our attorneys.
