My husband and I are just starting our divorce. My friend told me I should meet with a lawyer right away even though I don’t think we are going to use lawyers. She said he could make appointments with all the good lawyers so I can’t use them. What could he do?

Yes it is possible, however unlikely, that he could go around town and give everyone material information about your case and conflict those firms out of your case should he choose not to retain them personally. You should definitely meet with a lawyer as you pursue the divorce but moreso for the legal advice they can provide you. Divorce requires planning. A single assessment with a lawyer can help you to organize yourself and your family so the divorce proceeds more smoothly for you whether or not the case contains much conflict.
