Kristina Contreras is an experienced bilingual attorney on the firm's Family Law Team, known for delivering practical results derived from her strategic preparation and strong courtroom advocacy. In addition to family law, Kristina has practiced in business law, financial services, immigration law, and regulatory litigation. This breadth of experience strengthens her ability to identify and address issues that could affect her clients beyond their immediate family law disputes, such as business ownership, immigration consequences, and the long-term effects of a proposed settlement.
Kristina guides clients through high-stakes domestic relations cases, such as contested divorce, relocation disputes, and high-asset divorce. Her business and finance background—including work on corporate mergers and acquisitions valued between $100 million and $22 billion—is especially valuable in high-net-worth divorces involving closely held businesses, executive compensation, and sophisticated marital estates.
Fluent in English and Spanish, Kristina works directly with Spanish-speaking clients without relying exclusively on interpreters, building trust in emotionally difficult cases. In her prior immigration practice, Kristina represented abandoned, abused, and neglected children in Special Immigrant Juvenile cases and handled related guardianship and adoption proceedings—work that required assessing what was truly in a child's best interest. She brings that same compassion and judgment to custody and parenting disputes.
Admitted to practice law in Colorado and Minnesota, Kristina has also appeared before courts in California, Florida, Illinois, New Jersey, and New York through Pro Hac Vice admission. Despite ample time in court, Kristina recognizes that many family disputes are best resolved without protracted litigation, and, as a specially trained mediator, she is well equipped to guide clients through mediation and settlement.
Outside of her legal practice, Kristina also devotes time to pro bono work and community involvement. She has provided free legal assistance to vulnerable individuals and nonprofit organizations, as well as volunteered her time teaching low-income and at-risk students about their legal rights and responsibilities. A former lyric opera singer, Kristina credits that background for much of the discipline, preparation, and composure under pressure she brings to her practice. When she’s not working, she enjoys hiking, cooking with her husband, and spending time with their two cats, Micia and Pico.
