Austin Leighty is a seasoned litigator, bringing over a decade of high-stakes prosecutorial experience to Robinson & Henry’s Family Law Team. Austin specializes in complex criminal cases involving domestic disputes, effectively fighting for just outcomes for his clients.

Austin has built a career on tireless advocacy for victims while ensuring fair case dispositions that respect the rights of criminal defendants. As lead trial attorney in the Denver District Attorney’s Office, he prosecuted more than 60 jury trials, covering serious offenses such as murder and attempted murder, sexual assault, vehicular homicide, and kidnapping.

During his tenure at the Denver District Attorney’s Office, Austin oversaw and managed the city’s innovative Sobriety Court and the county’s RESTART Court—programs dedicated to reducing recidivism among repeat DUI offenders. In 2023, Austin was awarded the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Outstanding Prosecutor of the Year award for Colorado.

Committed to ethical and constitutional practice, Austin meticulously scrutinizes search and arrest warrants to ensure that law enforcement adheres to the law. He also consistently collaborates with opposing counsel to achieve appropriate case resolutions.

Representative matters:

  • Family Protection - Successfully prosecuted a habitual domestic violence offender and obtained sole custody for the parent, and ensured victim safety by entering the family into witness protection.

  • Vehicular Plea - Successfully negotiated a resolution in a high-profile vehicular homicide case, ensuring the final plea disposition addressed the victims’ needs.

  • Arson Conviction - Secured a successful verdict in a high-profile arson case involving a near-fatal explosion by navigating extensive motions and litigating a weeks-long trial.
