Your Legal Questions Answered

question iconMy partner and I have been living together with his biological children for three years and I currently have power of attorney grating me parental rights. We are not legally married and the biological mother of the children is deceased. Can I adopt the girls in this scenario or do we need to be legally married and for a certain length of time?

Colorado allows for a second-parent to adoption under C.R.S. § 19-5-203 if the child has a sole legal parent and the sole legal parent wishes the child to be adopted by a specified second adult. Our firm has a web page which explains the process in greater detail. Here is the link: /colorado/family-law/adoption/must-knows-colorado-adoption/. Please feel free to call (303)688-0944 to set a appointment to discuss this with an attorney.
