question iconWe are remodeling our house. Our floor contractor helped us match the wood and placed the order with the lumber yard in May. In early July I paid for the wood, ordered under his account. The job itself began a week ago, they installed the new red oak to match the existing wood floors, only to find that the original floors were white. He now claims he told us that it’s the protocol to test the wood, something he told us at the initial bid. But we never discussed that point. It’s not in writing in the email thread, or on the contract. He then claims the wood was ordered before he could test the wood, but I just paid for the wood he ordered. He’s now trying to walk away from the job, only offering to pay for half the new white oak. What can we do? I’m paying for wood twice. Until this point, we have not paid him for his services/labor.
