My divorce decree ended a year ago and my ex had promised to keep paying the arrears. He owed me from the last five years and he suddenly decided to stop. I am 68 years old and need to see if I can collect those payment payments. he did not make but promise to. My ex is a narcissist , doctor. Your information on that was intriguing to me and prompted me to send this question. thank you

Thank you for reaching out. I’m sorry to hear you’re going through this. Colorado law allows individuals to collect unpaid support payments even after the court-ordered support period has ended. In Colorado, arrears are considered a liquidated debt, and therefore, the six-year statute of limitations applies. That means you have a limited amount of time to try to collect the debt. Given your circumstances, I highly recommend you speak with a family law attorney to understand your legal options and the timeline for collecting the unpaid debt.
