If you were injured in a car accident, you might find it difficult to communicate. Why? You may have a concussion – even if you didn’t hit your head.

I’m Dale Casares, personal injury attorney at Robinson & Henry. In this post, I’ll be going through the concussion care checklist, and specifically, the communication skills section. I want to give you some examples from real clients to show you what we were talking about when we wrote these questions.
Here’s the first question: “Do you struggle to think of the right words to use when speaking with others?”
This happens to all of us, right? We all have moments where we can’t find the right word that we’re trying to say.
But what you need to ask yourself is this:
Is it worse than it was before the car crash?
Do you misspell words that you previously knew how to spell?
This can be quite alarming. You may find that all of a sudden you’re dyslexic, or you’re writing ‘there,’ t-h-e-r-e,’ when you meant ‘they are.’
“Do you use the wrong word?”
I had a client who said, “Honey, give me another glass of milk. Pour me another glass of milk.”
And she asked, “What are you talking about?”
He said, “Pour me another glass of milk.”
And she asked, “Do you mean coffee?”
And he said, “Oh, yeah.”
So using completely wrong words can also be something that you might notice. It could be very alarming, but, once again, getting an early diagnosis and the proper treatment as soon as possible will give you the best chance of recovery.
