James oversees Robinson & Henry’s team of talented family law attorneys who are dedicated to helping clients reach the best resolution under difficult circumstances.
With more than 16 years of experience, James hasn’t always focused on family law. His career began in Memphis, Tennessee where he honed his legal expertise. There he practiced in areas such as criminal law and medical malpractice defense. James, though, is a Colorado native, and as they often do, the Rocky Mountains called James home.
James returned to Colorado, in 2006. Shortly thereafter he began to focus his practice in the area of family law. James has always been interested in helping individuals find justice and equity. While some may not immediately connect equity and family law, James believes it is a practice area in which to pursue fairness. His goal: to mitigate the negative effects divorce can have on families.
“Family law is the area of law that people who are law-abiding will still find themselves involved in and frustrated by,” James said.
He said clients can have a misguided perception about family law as a result of what they see on TV or hear from family or friends.
“Erasing their incorrect assumptions and managing expectations while maintaining the client’s confidence can be the most difficult part of family law practice,” he said.
It’s the challenges of family law that propel James’ efforts for his clients. In turn, it’s James’ efforts that get him recognized by the likes of Best Lawyers, which identifies and honors some of the country’s most qualified attorneys.
“I have the personality and strength of character to bring cases through trial. When children are involved, their best interest should direct that litigation, however, my client’s interests and goals will always be my focus.” – James Garts III
The prestigious The Best Lawyers in America list acknowledges the “very best lawyers in each practice area and metropolitan region in the country,” according to U.S. News & World Report.
In addition to his love of the law, James is an active local volunteer. He works with the Colorado Bar Association, having chaired both the Young Lawyers Division and the Member Services Committee.
Great work, James! We are proud to call you one of our own.
