The Senior Manager, Accounting Operations, oversees the firm’s core accounting operations and ensures accuracy, efficiency, and strong internal controls. This senior, hands-on role is responsible for accounts payable, reconciliations, fixed assets, and key compliance activities, while supporting operational close and continuous process improvement.

This position reports to the Assistant Director of Accounting & HR and partners closely with accounting leadership and cross-functional teams to maintain financial integrity and scalable accounting operations.

Work Location: Castle Rock

● In-office role with flexibility when appropriate

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, billing support, accounts receivable, trust accounting, and operational close activities

  • Own bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring timely completion and resolution of variances

  • Manage the accounts payable function, including invoice processing, approvals, vendor maintenance, and payment cycles

  • Maintain fixed asset records

  • Manage, prepare, and file personal property tax filings, vendor 1099 filings, and support related compliance requirements

  • Identify, document, and implement process improvements that enhance operational efficiency and reduce costs

  • Eliminate manual accounting processes through automation and the integration of new technologies and systems

  • Maintain strong internal controls and support audit and tax-related requests

  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes, including journal entries and account reconciliations

  • Ensure compliance with legal industry trust accounting rules and ethical billing practices; work within firm billing systems to reconcile client matter funds and ensure accurate invoicing

  • Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting operations staff, including timely performance feedback and professional development

  • Identify, implement, and monitor operational KPIs and provide insights to leadership

  • Collaborate with Operations, HR, IT, and Finance to align accounting workflows

  • Perform other duties as assigned by upper management

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field

  • 6–8 years of progressive accounting experience

  • 2-3 years in a leadership role managing others

  • Strong experience with accounts payable, reconciliations, and balance sheet management

  • Solid understanding of internal controls and accounting operations

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Experience in a law firm or professional service firm strongly preferred

  • Experience with Accounting Seed and Salesforce is a plus
