Family law, often called domestic relations, is one of the most difficult areas of law to practice due to the nature of the cases. Family law attorneys see clients through divorce, help domestic violence victims obtain protection orders, and reunite children with parents from whom they have been alienated. Family law attorney Emily Vanderlaan chose this practice area to improve the outcome for people facing these kinds of circumstances.
Like many attorneys, Emily decided to attend law school so she could help people. While family law cases are rather contentious at times, Emily maintains it’s the most rewarding area of law, as she has witnessed her clients’ lives change for the better.
In addition to being a zealous advocate for her clients, Emily educates them about their rights and the legal process so they are empowered during their case and as they move forward with their lives.
Emily studied business at Central Michigan University where she obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration. She received her Juris Doctor from Michigan State University where she graduated cum laude.
During her free time, Emily loves to cook, listen to podcasts, explore Colorado, and play with her puppy, Wally.
