So long as there are agreements, a dissolution of marriage can be done as quickly as 92 days, but no shorter. If you have a high conflict divorce and/or complicated legal issues that require expert investigation and reports or a hearing to resolve issues that you and your spouse cannot agree upon, it can easily take 6 to 12 months to complete your divorce no matter what county you’re filing the dissolution proceeding. If you are seeking to resolve your divorce quickly and by agreement, I highly recommend consulting with a lawyer for preparation or even a limited review of the agreements you reach with your spouse. Even if the agreement is struck in mediation for execution thereafter, the completeness and enforcability of your proposed agreements should be reviewed as repairing incomplete or otherwise unenforceable agreements can be difficult and particularly more time-consuming. Under Colorado law mediators cannot provide legal advice, even if they themselves are a lawyer. It is inappropriate for a lawyer to advise two adverse parties.
