The law provides an avenue to impact people’s lives and make a poor situation better. I started my career with the idea that I was going to help make children and families safer. I wanted to give a voice to children and disenfranchised people a voice in a system where they may be lost or unable to access readily.

Shayna Sanborn, a Partner at Robinson and Henry, always wanted to stand up for abused children and battered women. This drove her to a career in Family Law where she enjoys making a positive impact on people’s lives.

“I help people get through trauma and difficult times so that they can heal and work through the problems that they are experiencing,” Shayna says.

Advocacy is Shayna’s passion. She earned a Master’s degree in social work and has put it to use alongside her legal acumen. Shayna has participated in political advocacy, writing grants and funding important initiatives including a children’s assessment center in Houston, and a program which permits closed-circuit testimony in the Harris County courts.

As a lawyer, Shayna has tried cases in multiple Texas counties, including Collin, Denton, Dallas, Tarrant, Harris, Fort Bend, and Brazoria.

Some of her notable case results:

  • Shayna helped a father in Fort Bend County get custody of his two children from their mother. He had retained Shayna after learning that the stepfather had sexually abused their autistic daughter.
  • In Brazoria County, Shayna helped a father get custody of his two children. The mother had filed for divorce and then told him he was not the biological father of the youngest child. Shayna’s unwavering advocacy resulted in both the mother and biological father being ordered pay support to her client.
  • Shayna helped a Harris County mom get custody of her daughter and a disproportionate share of their community estate in a contentious divorce.

Shayna is a hands-on attorney who is highly responsive to her clients’ needs and questions. She works to achieve her clients’ desired outcome while prioritizing long-term goals and the best interests of their children. She believes litigation should be temporary, so families can heal and move forward.

“The attorney-client relationship is important, but it should eventually end,” Shayna says. “A client’s relationships with their children, their family, and their former spouse continues forever.”

Shayna herself is part of a loving, blended family that includes her husband, two step-children, and a daughter from a previous marriage. She loves to travel and experience different cultures and communities when she can. Shayna also enjoys hiking, skiing, reading, caring for her three dogs, and supporting her daughter’s love of dance and performance.

“Shayna is the absolute best. I hired her for a custody/child support case. She is the consummate professional. Shayna eased my fears and worries with her expansive knowledge of the legal system. She was extremely compassionate, and while always showing empathy, she ensured me that my son’s safety and well-being was her number one concern. There was never a question to small or irrelevant for her to address. When I would begin to feel despair, she would remind me through her actions and words that everything would be okay and because of her hard work and persistence our case was settled in my favor.
